Now, keeping all those items organized... not so easy! Your children just spent 60 minutes quietly crafting while you fixed dinner! WOW! How nice! Then you enter the room and it looks like dinosaurs from the "Creatious Period" have made a come back!! Art supplies are everywhere!!! Don't panic! I will help you get those dino crafts under control!
Remember: the main trick to any organizing project is to containerize!
Keeping similar items together and assigning a home for each category will make all the difference! If you don't know where it goes, nor will the Joes! Everyone in the world needs a home! Even crayons, scissors, erasers, markers... well, you get the picture, right?! By having a separate place for everything, you will help your child/ren know where to put things back.
My children are 7 and 9 now, so they have all their crafts at hand. When they were smaller I kept items that needed to be used under supervision out of reach. On the picture above you can see they have quite a lot at hand! On the picture below you can see how each category gets its own slot. And since it swivels, I place jot the middle of their table and they can reach for anything with ease.
The white cups and tray can be found at The Container Store, or if you don't have one near you, they are also available at Amazon. The wooden carrousel it is actually a flatware caddy! I got it at Home Goods. The one on the picture at the very top of this post is mine and it's for silverware too! I love them because they swivel around! Here is another one I love! To cut the noise of the pencils or pens, when hitting the bottom, cut shelf liner and set it at the bottom of the cup! Ah!Ha! Silver wear caddy as pencil holder, shelf liner as noise buffer!
Think outside the container box! Anything can be used for many things!
Only remember, children will need help either putting things away or reminding them to do it. At least for awhile, until they grow older enough to clean up by themselves. Some children will do that sooner, some later. Just keep trying!
Children need repetition to learn. Consistency is key.Read my post about the importance of Kids Sized Tables and Chairs.
More on organizing kids crafts coming soon!
